Know your gear
- Sensor — The optical sensor reads your hand movement. Flagship sensors (like PixArt PAW3950 or Razer Focus Pro) track perfectly at any speed — no jitter, no spin-outs — so your crosshair lands exactly where your hand goes.
- DPI — How far the cursor moves for each inch you move the mouse. Most pro players use 400–1600 DPI; a very high maximum DPI is mostly marketing — what matters is clean tracking at the DPI you actually use.
- Polling rate (1K / 4K / 8K) — How often the mouse reports its position to your PC. 1,000 Hz = every 1 ms; 8,000 Hz (8K) = every 0.125 ms. Higher polling makes motion look smoother on 240 Hz+ monitors, but uses more battery and CPU.
- Weight — Lighter mice (under ~60 g) start and stop faster, so flicks and micro-adjustments take less effort and your arm tires less in long sessions.
- Optical switches — Clicks are detected with a beam of light instead of metal contacts — no double-clicking over time and a faster response.
- 2.4 GHz wireless vs Bluetooth — 2.4 GHz (through the USB receiver) is low-latency and made for gaming. Bluetooth is handy for laptops and tablets and saves battery, but adds a little delay.
- Charging dock — Just set the mouse on the dock when you are done — it charges automatically and is always ready.
